Agile Development Bootcamp Using Scrum

Rites, LLC is proud to present a Microsoft .Net Development Bootcamp. This unique educational opportunity offers students a chance to work on a real project using Agile Development with Scrum and Test-Driven Development techniques to create a real-world solution for a local organization.

Unlike classes that focus on covering a single technology in a classroom setting, the Rites .Net Development Bootcamp focuses on giving students real-world experience using a variety of Microsoft technologies to produce working software modules in support of actual business needs.

During this three week bootcamp (six weeks on the evening schedule) students will become part of a working Agile team and participate in sprint planning, daily scrums and retrospectives to gain first-hand experience with these in-demand practices. Using test-driven development techniques, students will use SQL Server 2008 and C# 2008 to build working software.

Following successful completion of the bootcamp, students will receive an evaluation from both the instructor and the customer organization and be able to add this real-world experience to their resumes. Students may also request free job-placement and career development services from Rites, LLC.

Topics and Technologies covered^* include:

• Agile Development using Scrum.
  • Defining User Stories and translating stories into effective functional requirements.
  • Working with cross-functional team members in a self-organizing structure
  • Developing code to test specifications

• SQL Server 2008
  • Defining effective data models based on business needs
  • Building well-modeled and scalable databases
  • Creating views, stored procedures and functions
  • Controlling user access to data

• C# 2008
  • Designing effective user interfaces
  • Data access using ADO.Net and LINQ to SQL
  • Building Web applications using ASP.Net or Windows Applications for the desktop
  • Iterative, test-driven development practices

• Microsoft Business Intelligence with SQL Server Reporting Services

*Specific technologies covered will vary according to the needs of the project, but the above will all be included in each project. Additional topics may include jQuery, Ajax, ASP.Net MVC or Web Services.

Prerequisites

Because this bootcamp focuses on the application of Agile and Scrum practices to development projects, prospective students must first complete the .Net Development and SQL Server 2008 Fundamentals courses or have the equivalent in training and experience.
